Load Balancing

Cloudflare’s load balancing does global traffic steering, health checks, failover, and session affinity, and it does all of them dependably. Geo and latency-based steering work as advertised, and health check probes from multiple regions give you a trustworthy picture of origin health.

The pricing model shows its age: billed per origin and per DNS query bucket in a way that feels disconnected from the rest of the platform, and costs creep up quickly as you add pools and monitors.

It’s also one of those products where the UI hasn’t kept pace — managing many pools across many load balancers gets tedious, and you’ll end up in Terraform. Solid product, deserves a refresh.
